Who is this for?
Children ages 8 and up
In this NEW program, the studio will be set up as a center-based classroom. The centers will change weekly or daily, depending on the class participation and the direction of the students. The children will be allowed to roam freely in the centers as to their preference. Ideas will be suggested as to the use of materials as well as samples provided. We want to create an environment that is free of strict, art project-based programs. As always, the student is also allowed to paint with oils at the easels. There will be one to two teachers every day, depending on enrollment. These teachers will float freely from center to center, providing instruction and encouraging the students to expand their creative thinking. Snacks will be provided; each student should bring a box lunch. Occasionally the children will be taken to Fort Beach or Crocker Park for lunch and exploring for found objects to be used for art projects (weather permitting).
Working with paper: paper mache, tissue paper stained glass, origami motifs, hand-crafted Asian fans, kites, hand-pressed paper. Working with dyes: make your own sidewalk chalk, tie-dyed t-shirts. Sculpture: cardboard construction, Filo clay projects, found natural items. Painting: as in our regular program, children are encouraged to work from both still lifes and photos of their choosing.
